I’LL NEVER LET GO. I PROMISE

materials: concrete, pallet, plastic ribbon

This work is inspired by one of the final scenes of Titanic. Kate is floating on a raft while Leo is swimming in the freezing water. As he is slowly dying, he makes her promise she will move on after his death. A promise can be a burden and a lover can turn out to be a freak. Commenting on this famous movie scene while at the same time making a reference to Adam and Eve and the original sin, this work is my brutalist shout-out to feminism. The plastic ribbons seem festive and a little bit kinky in the way they tie the concrete burden to the pallet. A final fact for the scholars: a square-shaped hole can be found in the block. What does that say about the human condition?
