Here we see a geometrical pattern, created for the ceiling of the underground station Gneisenaustraße in Berlin. The work is like a sky full of samaras, those seeds from a maple tree that twirl down like little helicopters. Doesn’t that make you smile? It’s just like a forest! When I created it, I got in touch with my inner child.

2874949 SAMARAS (FOR YOU) was almost removed because some people saw a link with swastika’s. In preparation of a debate evening I wrote an essay: ‘Why a child’s fantasy can never be ‘entartete kunst’: notes on an expected apology from the German people.’ Unfortunately one day before the debate my agent called and said I had to come back to the Netherlands immediately for urgent business.
